China calls for advancing AI to protect children’s rights

At the 55th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, a Chinese diplomat, Chen Xu, emphasized the importance of advancing high-quality development of artificial intelligence (AI) to safeguard children’s mental health and rights. Representing 80 countries, Chen highlighted AI’s potential in promoting children’s well-being while stressing the need for its governance based on principles of consultation, contribution, and shared benefits. The statement underscored prioritizing children’s interests, fostering inclusivity, and respecting national sovereignty and cultural diversity in AI governance. This initiative is part of China’s broader efforts at the Human Rights Council to advocate for various groups’ rights through AI, receiving support from UN member states.
