China and Botswana have agreed to upgrade their relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership following a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko in Beijing. The two sides pledged to strengthen cooperation in trade, mining, agriculture, education, healthcare and the digital economy.
Xi said China was ready to share its mining expertise and green technologies to help Botswana develop its natural resources sustainably. Both countries also see opportunities to expand cooperation in renewable energy and digital infrastructure as Botswana works to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on diamond exports. China and Botswana have also maintained longstanding healthcare cooperation, with Chinese medical teams providing millions of patient visits in Botswana since 1981.
