China says it supports the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in helping to find a peaceful and political solution to the Iran nuclear issue.
China’s representative to the IAEA, Li Song, made this statement after a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, along with envoys from Russia and Iran.
China, Russia, and Iran agreed that solving the issue through respectful political talks is the best way forward. They believe the IAEA can play a helpful role in this process.
China and Russia also said they support Iran working more closely with the IAEA.
Li Song added that China appreciates Iran’s promise not to build nuclear weapons, respects Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful reasons, and supports Iran talking with other countries — including the U.S. — to protect its rights through discussion.
China said it will continue working with Russia, Iran, and the IAEA to support peace efforts.
