On Friday, China’s Ministry of Commerce stated that it is considering possible trade talks with the United States, following repeated signals from senior U.S. officials expressing interest in negotiations. The ministry said that the U.S. has recently sent messages through multiple channels, showing a willingness to engage in dialogue, and China is currently assessing the situation.
China emphasized that its position remains firm and consistent: it is open to negotiations but will stand its ground if necessary. The ministry reiterated that the U.S. started the tariff war and that if it truly wants to negotiate, it must show genuine intent by correcting its mistakes and being ready to cancel the unilateral tariff increases.
The ministry also noted that the U.S. has hinted at potential changes to its tariff policies. However, it warned that if talks take place without a rollback of these unfair measures, they would be viewed as lacking sincerity and could further damage trust between the two countries.
