China’s Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management have allocated 50 million yuan (about $7.3 million) in disaster relief funds to support emergency response efforts in central China’s Hubei Province and northwest China’s Gansu Province following recent natural disasters.
The funding comes after a rare tornado struck Hubei and a landslide hit Tanchang County in Gansu, causing casualties and significant property damage.
Of the total allocation, 20 million yuan will go to Hubei to support the relocation of affected residents and the reconstruction of damaged homes. Gansu will receive 30 million yuan for search and rescue operations, evacuation efforts, emergency response to geological hazards, and inspections to prevent secondary disasters.
The Ministry of Finance said it will continue monitoring disaster developments, strengthen financial support, and assist local authorities in disaster prevention and relief efforts to protect lives and property.
Earlier, China’s top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, also allocated 50 million yuan from the central budget to support emergency recovery work in Hubei.
