China-Africa expo opens with focus on economic ties, new deals

The Fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo opened in Changsha, Hunan Province, on June 12, 2025, with the theme “China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization.” The event brought together nearly 4,700 companies and over 30,000 participants from both regions. Preliminary agreements for cooperation projects exceeded $11 billion in value.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized China’s strong and lasting support for Africa, calling the country a “true friend and sincere brother” in Africa’s modernization efforts. He also stressed the importance of China and Africa sharing governance experiences and aligning development strategies.

Leaders from Uganda, Liberia, and Kenya attended the opening ceremony, reinforcing high-level engagement. Wang pledged further economic opening to Africa, support for African exports, and deeper cooperation to boost Africa’s industrialization and digital transformation.

The expo reflects China’s ongoing commitment to building a shared future with Africa, particularly through trade, modernization, and strategic partnerships.
