Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Lijiang, Yunnan Province, to inspect the region’s rural revitalization efforts and its thriving “flower economy.” At the Lijiang Modern Flower Industrial Park, he observed advanced agricultural technologies, including soilless cultivation and intelligent irrigation, which have boosted flower exports and created jobs for over 300 locals. Xi praised the farmers’ efforts, noting their stable incomes and the industry’s alignment with modern agriculture.
Yunnan leads China’s fresh-cut flower industry, with a planting area of 130,000 hectares and a global ranking in production. The province employs over a million people directly and indirectly through its well-developed supply chain, including Asia’s first major flower auction center. Xi emphasized the need to enhance industrial transformation and high-quality development in the region.
Xi also visited Lijiang’s historic Old Town, a UNESCO heritage site, highlighting the importance of integrating culture and tourism. The town’s tourism industry, featuring cultural attractions and handicrafts, continues to grow, welcoming millions of visitors annually. He stressed the balance between heritage preservation and economic development to ensure sustainable growth in cultural tourism.
