China’s Ministry of Water Resources on Sunday activated a Level-IV emergency response for flood control in Beijing, following days of heavy rainfall.
The Chaobai River has experienced torrential rains since July 24, leading to the Miyun Reservoir, a key water source for Beijing, recording its largest inflow flood in over six decades on Sunday.
Forecasters expect moderate to heavy rain to continue along the Chaobai River for the next three days, with a risk of small and medium-sized rivers exceeding warning levels.
The ministry has urged local authorities to intensify monitoring, issue timely warnings, ensure the safety of infrastructure, inspect dikes, and promptly relocate residents from dangerous areas to protect lives and property
