Reece James, Pedro Neto, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also scored for Chelsea, while Angel Di Maria’s penalty was Benfica’s only goal. The match was delayed two hours due to lightning.
In another round of 16 match, Palmeiras beat Botafogo 1-0 in extra time thanks to a 100th-minute goal by Paulinho. Despite going down to 10 men after Gustavo Gomez’s red card, Palmeiras held on and advanced to face Chelsea in the quarterfinals.
