Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will visit China from January 14 to 17 at the invitation of Premier Li Qiang, marking the first trip by a Canadian prime minister in eight years. China’s Foreign Ministry said the visit is highly valued and aims to strengthen bilateral relations. President Xi Jinping will meet Carney to provide strategic guidance on future ties, while Premier Li Qiang and NPC Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji will hold separate talks covering bilateral cooperation and shared concerns. China said it hopes the visit will deepen dialogue, build political trust, expand practical cooperation, manage differences constructively, and further improve China-Canada relations for the benefit of both countries and global stability.
