Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may announce his resignation this week due to growing dissent in his Liberal Party, according to The Globe and Mail. The announcement could happen as early as Monday, ahead of the party’s caucus meeting on Wednesday. It is unclear if Trudeau will stay on temporarily while the party chooses a new leader. Trudeau, in power since 2015, led the Liberals to victories in 2019 and 2021 but now trails Conservative Pierre Poilievre by 20 points in polls.
