Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced plans for retaliatory tariffs on $105 billion worth of U.S. goods in response to President-elect Donald Trump’s threat of a 25% tariff on Canadian exports. During a meeting with provincial and territorial premiers, Trudeau emphasized a united front, although Alberta’s Premier Danielle Smith warned against measures targeting oil exports, citing a potential national unity crisis.
The premiers pledged to work collaboratively on measures to support affected sectors and workers. Trudeau also plans a Cabinet retreat on January 20, Trump’s inauguration day, to focus on protecting Canadian interests
