Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford have announced an 8.7-billion-Canadian-dollar support package to protect workers and businesses from ongoing US tariffs and strengthen the economy. The plan focuses on Ontario’s steel, automotive and critical minerals industries.
The investment includes a joint fund to support the steel industry, upgrades to automotive production lines for electric and connected vehicles, and new roads to improve access to critical mineral resources in northern Ontario. Carney said the measures aim to protect jobs and build a stronger, more independent Canadian economy. The package adds to existing federal support programs that have provided more than 25 billion Canadian dollars to help Canadian workers and businesses affected by US tariffs.
