BRICS tech horizons: New paths for energy cooperation

At the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram, India, energy leaders from 11 member economies outlined a collaborative strategy focused on energy security and sustainability, universal energy access and equity, and technological innovation. Recognizing the diverse energy resources and national priorities of each member, the group emphasized tailored transition pathways rather than a one-size-fits-all model, advocating for resilient supply chains, affordable financing, and joint developments in renewable energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture. A key practical outcome was the launch of the BRICS Digital Centre of Excellence for Smart Grids and Energy Storage alongside the adoption of new guiding principles, creating a collaborative platform for knowledge sharing, policy exchanges, and pilot initiatives to help integrate clean energy into modern, digitally enabled power grids.
