The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating claims made by a Boeing whistleblower regarding safety and quality concerns in the production of the company’s 787 and 777 jets. The whistleblower, Boeing engineer Sam Salehpour, alleges that he faced retaliation after identifying engineering problems affecting the structural integrity of the jets. Salehpour claims Boeing employed shortcuts during assembly, leading to issues such as misalignment and debris between key joints. Boeing denies the allegations, stating confidence in the safety of the 787 Dreamliner. The FAA confirmed the investigation after Boeing shares fell nearly 2 percent. Salehpour’s concerns will be addressed in a Senate hearing on April 17 titled “Examining Boeing’s Broken Safety Culture: Firsthand Accounts.”
