A plane crash at South Korea’s Muan International Airport last month was caused by a bird strike, the transport ministry revealed. The flight data and cockpit voice recorders stopped working one minute after the control tower warned of the bird strike. Both engines failed after colliding with birds, cutting the plane’s power supply. A pilot issued a Mayday call during a go-around before the crash. CCTV footage confirmed the plane struck a flock of birds, and evidence of common winter birds was found in the engines. The plane skidded off the runway and hit a concrete mound, resulting in 179 fatalities out of 181 passengers. Only two survived.
