China’s 2026 National Day holiday film season earned more than 100 million yuan on its first day, while cinemas are expanding beyond traditional movie screenings to attract more visitors. Some theaters are now showing live sports, hosting cultural events and offering tourism and shopping activities. More than 100 cinemas are also broadcasting the China Open tennis tournament, as theaters increasingly become broader entertainment and cultural spaces.
