Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will visit Spain from September 14 to 17 for talks with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, marking the fourth round of China–U.S. economic and trade discussions in six months. The agenda includes tariffs, export controls and TikTok.
Previous meetings produced progress on reducing tariffs, though disputes remain. Export controls are now a key focus after Washington added more than 20 Chinese firms to its Entity List, a move Beijing condemned. TikTok’s future in the U.S. will also be discussed, with a September 17 deadline looming for a potential ban unless ByteDance sells the app.
Both sides stress dialogue, but tensions remain over trade, technology and digital platforms.
