“Belt and Road” China-Myanmar Bilateral Media Cooperation Program Launch

The launch ceremony of the “Belt and Road” China-Myanmar Bilateral Media Joint Shooting Programs, organized by China Media Group (CMG) and Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV), was held on December 7th at the China Cultural Center in Yangon. During the event, a new program titled China Walk was also introduced.

The ceremony was attended by U Ye Tint, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Information, Dr. Zheng Zhihong, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, representatives from MRTV, the Myanmar News and Media Council, and students from universities in Yangon.

In his opening speech, Deputy Minister of Information U Ye Tint emphasized the importance of media cooperation in promoting the Belt and Road Initiative. He stated that sharing programs across both nations’ media would allow their people to learn about each other’s cultures. He expressed hope that increased cultural understanding would foster stronger ties between Myanmar and China.

China and Myanmar’s media collaboration dates back to a 2015 agreement between China Radio International (CRI) and MRTV. Since 2016, two MRTV employees have worked on the CRI Myanmar program, and two more will join them this December.

Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, Dr. Zheng Zhihong highlighted the deepening relationship between the two nations, attributing it to collaborative initiatives like this program. He noted that such efforts promote harmony and mutual understanding.

Over recent years, media cooperation between the two countries has steadily grown. Since CMG’s establishment, it has partnered with MRTV to produce popular programs, fostering closer ties between the people of Myanmar and China.

The ceremony also featured screenings of several joint documentaries, including A Beautiful Border Trip – focusing on rural development, A Letter to Home – highlighting cultural exchange, Towards Green Farms – exploring advancements in agriculture, Memorable Yunnan Tea Leaf Village, Unforgettable Hainan, and New Southern Silk Road (1).

These documentaries were co-produced by CMG’s Asia-Africa Languages Programming Center and Myanmar media outlets, including MRTV, MITV, Sky Net, and YTV.

The newly launched China Walk program is a 2024 international cooperation initiative by CMG. It invites over 100 media professionals, social influencers, and artists from 23 countries, including Myanmar, to explore 11 regions of China. The program showcases China’s regional development, modernization, and cultural heritage.

This event also marks preparations for the upcoming 75th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations, highlighting the two nations’ enduring partnership.
