The Cox’s Bazar wind plant, the first centralized wind power project in Bangladesh built and invested in by Chinese enterprises, has been fully operational since the installation of its last wind-driven generator. It’s expected to generate 145 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing coal consumption and carbon dioxide emissions while meeting the energy needs of 100,000 households. This marks Bangladesh’s entry into the era of commercial wind power. Chinese investment has introduced wind power to Bangladesh, employing Chinese solutions, standards, and equipment, and providing local job opportunities and training. Collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative has been fruitful, and there is optimism for further energy development cooperation between the two countries.
