In Queensland, Australia, a wildfire near Tara has led to one reported death, over 50 homes destroyed, and about 20,000 hectares of land burned. The fire has been active for over a week, prompting hundreds to evacuate. Around 70 active fire points are reported in Queensland, with nine in New South Wales, signaling an early start to the wildfire season.
Expert’s attribute this to the El Niño phenomenon, which brings hotter and drier conditions. This year’s season could rival the devastating 2019 Black Summer fires, which claimed lives, destroyed thousands of homes, and covered a vast area.
