A landslide occurred in the resort town of Shovi in northwestern Georgia, resulting in at least 16 deaths and dozens of people missing. Rescue efforts are underway to find survivors amidst the debris, and over 200 people have been evacuated from the area. The town, known for its forests and mineral springs, experienced heavy rains and flooding, which are not uncommon in the region. Steep slopes in Georgia pose a risk of landslides, and similar incidents have occurred in the past, resulting in fatalities.
