ASEAN Media Capacity Building Workshop Successfully Held, Promoting Media Exchanges and Cooperation Between China and ASEAN

From July 14 to 18, the ASEAN Media Capacity Building Workshop, co-organized by the Mission of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN and China Daily, was held in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China. The workshop aimed to empower media organizations in ASEAN countries to enhance their competitiveness in light of the ongoing transformation in journalism, especially given the rise of AI. Twenty media professionals from ASEAN countries participated in the workshop.

On July 15, Lecturers from China Daily Asia-Pacific delivered sessions on topics including: “The Evolving Media Landscape: What Does the Future Hold”, “AI in newsroom”, “Gearing up for a media coverage”. The trainers engaged in active discussions and interactions with the participants.

On July 16, media professionals from ASEAN countries visited the Cyberport in Hong Kong, exchanged views with Harmony Tech and iFlytek based in the Cyberport, explored the development of low-altitude economy in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, and current solutions, explored one-stop intelligent voice interaction, experienced simultaneous translation devices. And then, they visited and exchanged views with the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China, China Daily, and the South China Morning Post.

On the morning of July 17, the participants traveled by car to Shenzhen, where they visited BYD Shenzhen Headquarters. They learned about BYD’s development history, business sectors, technologies, vehicle models, and other related displays. Experience BYD SkyShuttle, and BYD Electric Vehicle test drive. They had a working lunch with officials from the Foreign Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government. They also visited UBTECH Robotics, to learn about application scenarios of intelligent robots, AI infrastructure, and other cutting-edge technologies and development trends. And then Visited to Nanshan Energy Ecological Park, to learn Shenzhen’s advancements in domestic waste treatment and renewable energy recycling technologies. In the afternoon, they went to OCT Harbour and visited DJI Flagship Store. In the evening, they drove to Shenzhen Bay Port and return to Hong Kong.

On the morning of July 18, ASEAN media professionals exchanged views with representatives from Phoenix TV and the social media platform Xiaohongshu (RedNote). Afternoon, the closing ceremony of the ASEAN Media Capacity Building Workshop was held, and media professionals from ASEAN countries shared their reflections and takeaways during the workshop.
