APEC forum in Shanghai highlights women’s role in shared prosperity

The APEC Women and the Economy Forum concluded in Shanghai after two days of discussions focused on women’s role in digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and innovation across the Asia-Pacific region.

Delegates from 21 economies highlighted how women’s participation is increasingly seen as an economic growth driver rather than only a social issue. The forum also showcased China’s efforts in advancing women’s development through examples of leading female scientists and professionals in fields such as space exploration, agriculture, and marine research.

Participants emphasized the need for stronger policies and cooperation to support women’s access to education, employment, and social protection, with the forum expected to release a new initiative on women’s economic empowerment for the region.
