The incident led to Rubiales’ resignation and a three-year ban from the sport. Allegations against other officials, including coercion of Hermoso, have surfaced, prompting legal action and a restraining order against Rubiales. Additionally, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has pledged to investigate irregular conduct and ensure transparency in governance amid a broader corruption probe.
