The investigation into the Air India Boeing 787 crash that killed over 240 people is focusing on the plane’s engine thrust, flaps, and why the landing gear remained open during takeoff. The plane lost height shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad and crashed into a medical college hostel, causing a large fire and killing most onboard plus some people on the ground. Authorities are also examining possible maintenance issues by Air India but have ruled out bird strikes as a primary cause. Anti-terrorism experts are involved in the investigation. The Indian aviation regulator has ordered safety checks on all Air India Boeing 787 aircraft, including inspections of flight controls and engine power. One black box (flight data recorder) has been recovered; the cockpit voice recorder has not yet been found. The government is considering whether to ground the Boeing 787 fleet during the probe.
