Air Canada has suspended plans to resume limited flights after its flight attendants defied a government back-to-work order. About 240 flights scheduled for Sunday afternoon were cancelled; the airline normally operates around 700 daily flights.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) directed members to ignore a Canadian Industrial Relations Board order to return to work. Flights are now set to resume Monday evening.
Despite eight months of negotiations on pay, benefits, pensions, and crew rest, Air Canada and CUPE have not reached an agreement. The government has directed the CIRB to arbitrate the dispute.
