On Tuesday, China and Zambia co-hosted an event at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to discuss the Group of Friends for International Cooperation on AI Capacity-Building. More than 70 countries, including Russia, France, Brazil, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Ethiopia, along with international organizations like the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), attended the event.
The discussions focused on the fair and inclusive development of artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to improve AI governance and reduce the digital divide. Fu Cong, China’s ambassador to the UN, highlighted the importance of previous seminars in Beijing and Shanghai, which brought together over 180 participants from more than 40 countries to share best practices.
The Group of Friends, launched by China and Zambia, has grown since its first meeting last December and is now an important player in global AI governance. Fu Cong expressed hope that future discussions would lead to practical cooperation and further progress on AI capacity-building.
