African leaders, Caribbean officials, and international organizations gathered in Accra, Ghana, for a meeting focused on reparative justice for the trans-Atlantic slave trade.
The conference, held from Wednesday to Friday, follows a recent UN resolution recognizing the slave trade as a crime against humanity and aims to turn that recognition into concrete action.
Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama called for broader international participation in addressing historical injustice, stressing that the effects of the slave trade remain global. The African Union and Caribbean leaders also pushed for closer cooperation on reparations and systemic inequality.
The meeting highlights growing efforts to move from acknowledgment of history toward coordinated global action on reparative justice.
