Acting PM of Afghan caretaker government meets Chinese FM, hails bilateral ties with China

Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, acting prime minister of Afghanistan’s caretaker government, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Kabul on Wednesday, calling China a close partner and praising its consistent support for Afghanistan.

Akhund thanked China for advocating for Afghanistan’s interests internationally and stressed that countries interfering in others’ internal affairs eventually fail, while those pursuing friendly policies, like China, succeed. He said Afghanistan is determined to promote development, resolve its issues, and never allow its territory to be used against China.

Wang Yi affirmed China’s respect for Afghanistan’s sovereignty, traditions, and independent development, noting that both countries share a long history of friendship. He said imperialist powers have failed to dominate Afghanistan before and will continue to fail.

Wang added that China stands for equality, opposes unilateral bullying, and will expand cooperation with Afghanistan. He also called on Kabul to address China’s security concerns by stepping up efforts against the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, a UN-listed terrorist group.
