A severe heatwave has struck India ahead of the peak summer season, with Delhi experiencing its highest temperature of the year at 40.2°C. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast temperatures in the range of 40 to 42°C for Delhi over the next week. The heatwave has already prompted alerts across several states, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Odisha, and Maharashtra, where 21 cities are expected to record high temperatures.
In addition to the rising temperatures, the heat has led to a surge in heatstroke cases, with authorities urging people to stay in cool places and avoid exposure to the sun. A red alert has been issued for the Saurashtra and Kutch regions due to the extreme heat.
