China celebrated the fifth anniversary of its BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) on December 27, 2023. The BDS-3, completed in 2020, marked China as the third country with an independent global navigation satellite system. Recent satellite launches aimed to enhance communication capacity and positioning accuracy. The BDS gained international recognition from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), making it a universally accepted navigation system. Over the past five years, the BDS has found applications in various sectors, contributing to social and economic benefits. China’s satellite navigation and location services industry exceeded 500 billion yuan in 2022. The BDS has been widely applied in road vehicles, ships, railway systems, agriculture, and more. International cooperation includes aiding Pakistan in establishing a satellite-based augmentation system. The BDS is recognized as one of four global satellite navigation systems by the United Nations.
