Spain’s Valencia region is experiencing Europe’s worst flood disaster since 1967, following heavy rains that have caused at least 214 deaths and left many missing. In response, the regional government has restricted activities in less-affected areas to focus emergency efforts on the hardest-hit zones. Prime Minister Sanchez announced the deployment of an additional 5,000 army troops to support the ongoing search, rescue, and cleanup operations, supplementing the 2,500 already deployed. Residents and volunteers are actively involved in clearing mud and repairing infrastructure, while nationwide donation drives are underway to aid those affected. World Meteorological Organization spokesperson Claire Nellis highlighted the event as part of a series of extreme weather disasters occurring globally this year.
