The 20th China Huabiao Film Awards, held in Qingdao on Sunday, honored the best achievements in Chinese cinema from 2022 to 2024. Ten films received the Outstanding Feature Film award, including Zhang Yimou’s courtroom drama “Article 20” and the sci-fi film “The Wandering Earth 2,” which also won Guo Fan the Outstanding Director award.
Zhang Yi won Best Actor for his role in “Endless Journey,” and Kara Wai Ying-hung won Best Actress for “Love Never Ends.” The animated sequel “Ne Zha 2” received a Special Contribution Award for its record-breaking global success.
The awards ceremony, organized by the National Film Administration, recognized films released between July 2022 and June 2024. In total, there were 11 categories with 20 winners, reflecting the latest trends in Chinese cinema. The event also highlighted films set to release for the May Day holiday and the 2025 festival season.
In 2025, both the global film industry and China will celebrate important anniversaries—130 years of cinema worldwide and 120 years of Chinese cinema.
