The 2025 World Humanoid Robot Games opened Thursday in Beijing, showcasing cutting-edge humanoid robots with abilities such as intelligent decision-making and coordinated movement.
At the opening ceremony, robots entertained with hip-hop, martial arts, musical performances, Chinese opera, gymnastics, and fashion shows featuring 3D-printed and handcrafted outfits. They also demonstrated sports like soccer, boxing, and backflips.
Held at the National Speed Skating Oval, the event features 280 teams from 16 countries competing in 26 events from August 15–17, ranging from athletics (running, long jump, football) to practical tasks (material handling, drug sorting, cleaning).
Organizers aim to adapt human sports formats to test robots’ capabilities and accelerate their transition from labs to real-world use in factories, hospitals, and homes. The Games follow the 2025 World Robot Conference, themed “Making Robots Smarter, Making Embodied Agents More Intelligent.”
