2025 Chinese Image Film Week Opens in Yangon to Mark 75 Years of China–Myanmar Diplomatic Ties

The 2025 Chinese Image Film Week and Film Festival, celebrating the 75th anniversary of China–Myanmar diplomatic relations, opened on November 16 at Nay Pyi Taw Cinema in Yangon. The four-day event is organized by the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, China Media Group, and the China Film Administration, with support from the China Film Archive and Foreign Affairs Film and Media Corporation.

Nearly 500 guests from the film, cultural, media, and education sectors of both countries attended the opening ceremony.

Chinese Ambassador Ma Jia said films help build emotional bridges between nations and expressed hope that the eight selected films would offer Myanmar audiences a vivid and authentic image of China.

Myanmar’s Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn said Myanmar audiences have long enjoyed Chinese films, noting that film festivals strengthen cultural understanding and cooperation between the two countries.

The festival will screen eight Chinese films across various genres, including Hi, Mom, Legend of the Demon Cat, Moon Man, Wukong, The Eight Hundred, Johnny Keep Walking, Red Valley and Flying Swords of Dragon Gate. Screenings are free, and tickets can be reserved online via QR code or hotline.

China and Myanmar have exchanged films and cultural programs since the 1960s. In recent years, Chinese Image Film Week has been held frequently in Myanmar, helping to deepen cultural ties and expand cooperation in film and television between the two nations.
