The EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) reports that 2024 is set to become the hottest year on record, with global temperatures projected to reach 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels for the first time. C3S data shows the global temperature from January to October was 0.71°C higher than the 1991-2020 average. October alone saw temperatures 1.65°C above pre-industrial levels, marking a critical threshold set by the Paris Agreement. Samantha Burgess, C3S’s deputy director, emphasized the urgency of action before the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
