Two U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian were killed in an ambush by a lone Islamic State gunman in Syria, U.S. Central Command reported. Three other service members were injured, and the attacker was killed.
The attack occurred near Palmyra during a joint patrol with Syrian security forces. President Donald Trump vowed “very serious retaliation.” This marks the first U.S. fatality in Syria since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad a year ago.
