The foreign ministers of Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and Britain expressed serious concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. They called on Israel to allow NGOs and the UN to operate freely, lift restrictions on imports of medical and shelter supplies, and open border crossings to increase humanitarian aid.
Israel rejected the statement, saying it ignored improvements since the October ceasefire with Hamas and criticized it as one-sided. While famine has reportedly ended, humanitarian agencies say more aid is still needed, with Israel blaming distribution issues within Gaza.
Meanwhile, Gaza faces health and safety threats: leptospirosis is spreading among displaced people, and over 20,000 unexploded bombs remain, with ongoing challenges in removing them due to Israeli restrictions. These remnants have already caused dozens of deaths and injuries since the conflict began in October 2023.
