Tensions between the United States and Iran remain high as Washington weighs its next move following the US midterm elections, while regional countries continue efforts to prevent renewed conflict. Iran’s military leadership has warned that any further threat from the US or Israel would be met with an immediate response. Tehran has also insisted that Washington must meet its seven conditions before reopening the Strait of Hormuz, although Iran recently shortened its proposed settlement timeline from seven days to two. US President Donald Trump said he was in no rush to decide whether to resume military action, with possible options including a diplomatic agreement, renewed strikes or continued economic pressure.
Meanwhile, Qatar, Egypt and other regional partners are stepping up mediation efforts, but no breakthrough has been reached. Military tensions have also continued, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that the US carried out limited strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island on Monday. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also claimed to have intercepted three US drones in the area.
