Tensions remain high across the Middle East as the United States continues tightening sanctions on Iran, while fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement intensifies. On Wednesday, the US Treasury Department sanctioned a law firm based in Greece and Panama, accusing it of providing legal assistance to Iranian shipping networks. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that further escalation around the Strait of Hormuz could threaten civilian lives, regional security and the global economy, while saying Tehran remained open to diplomacy.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said its air defenses intercepted drones targeting the kingdom, including one aimed at an Aramco facility. The Houthis denied launching attacks against Saudi Arabia and accused Saudi-led forces of carrying out dozens of airstrikes in Yemen. Amid growing security concerns, the US ordered non-emergency government staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia.
