Chinese President Xi Jinping and President of Togo’s Council of the Republic Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé agreed on Tuesday to elevate bilateral relations to a China-Togo community with a shared future for the new era during their meeting in Beijing. Xi called for stronger political exchanges and cooperation in areas including new energy, digital technology and industrial development. He also encouraged Togo to make greater use of China’s zero-tariff treatment and simplified export procedures for African products.
Gnassingbé welcomed closer cooperation with China in trade, infrastructure, science and technology, and said Togo hoped to learn from China’s development experience. Both leaders also pledged to strengthen multilateral cooperation and support the interests of developing countries. The two countries will mark the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2027.
