China and the European Union reached agreement on 16 outcomes during their second trade and investment consultation meeting in Beijing on October 8 and 9, aiming to address differences and maintain stable economic ties. Discussions covered trade balance, export controls, intellectual property rights and reform of the World Trade Organization. Both sides also agreed to work on issues involving electric and hybrid vehicle trade, rare earth export licenses and dual-use goods, while exploring possible tariff reductions on certain products.
The talks also included plans for technical dialogue on the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation. However, differences remain, and progress will depend on how the agreements are put into practice. Both sides are expected to continue communication and hold their next regular meeting in March 2027.
