US President Donald Trump called for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to be replaced, criticizing Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries amid a dispute over a diesel supply deal with Russia. Zelenskyy accused Washington’s decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel exports of encouraging Moscow to continue its attacks. He made the remarks after a Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia killed 20 people, including three children.
The diesel deal has also drawn criticism from US lawmakers, while analysts questioned whether it would significantly lower fuel prices. Meanwhile, Ukraine urged Washington to pressure Russia into serious peace negotiations. Zelenskyy said Ukraine was willing to halt attacks on energy infrastructure if Russia also stopped striking Ukrainian power facilities and provided firm guarantees. However, Russian President Vladimir Putin said an immediate resumption of peace talks was unlikely.
