China and the European Union have agreed to strengthen economic and trade cooperation through dialogue and more balanced trade relations, following two days of talks in Beijing. The meeting, co-chaired by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic, resulted in agreement on 16 areas, including export controls, intellectual property rights, trade balance and World Trade Organization reform. The two sides also discussed possible tariff reductions on certain goods and trade in hybrid vehicles.
Chinese trade expert Zhou Mi said stable and predictable policies would help businesses build trust, invest and expand cooperation. China and the EU also identified opportunities in artificial intelligence, the digital economy and new energy. Both sides agreed to hold their next trade consultation meeting in March 2027, with a ministerial video conference planned for January.
