U.S. President Donald Trump said major technology companies have agreed to establish voluntary AI safety standards following a meeting with tech executives at the White House. The agreement includes using independent auditors to check whether AI systems are working as intended and taking steps to prevent them from accessing or hacking technical systems in unintended ways. Trump also said he is considering creating a 10-member board to oversee AI safety.
The meeting came as concerns grow over advanced AI, including reports of AI agents carrying out unauthorized hacking activities. Meanwhile, data centers that power AI systems are facing opposition in some communities over electricity use and utility costs. Executives from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, Google and Nvidia attended the meeting. The administration also announced a new AI tool aimed at making government services easier to access.
