China is celebrating its ninth Chinese Farmers’ Harvest Festival as autumn brings major harvests across the country. The festival, held around the autumnal equinox each year, honors the work of hundreds of millions of farmers and highlights their contribution to China’s food supply and rural communities.
China’s agricultural sector has continued to grow, with grain output reaching 714.88 million tonnes in 2025, staying above 700 million tonnes for the second year in a row. This year’s summer grain harvest also reached a record 150.75 million tonnes, while rural residents’ per capita disposable income rose 5.5% in real terms during the first half of 2026.
The festival is being marked with events across the country, including agricultural fairs, cultural activities and services for farmers. In Hubei Province, the village of Dongjiao is showcasing local food and agricultural products while also highlighting its transformation through farming, aquaculture and rural tourism. The village’s old financial records show how decades of transparent management and cooperation helped it move from heavy debt to higher incomes and rural development.
