China plans to expand affordable childcare, pediatric healthcare services

China plans to make the country more birth-friendly by expanding affordable childcare, pediatric healthcare, and financial support for families.

This year, more than 1,000 community health centers and township hospitals will add pediatric services, with over 95% expected to offer them by the end of 2026. China is also integrating childcare with preschool services and expanding maternity and early-pregnancy care.

The government provides a nationwide childcare subsidy of 3,600 yuan per child under three each year and has waived fees for the final year of kindergarten. These measures are part of China’s 2026–2030 plan to reduce the cost of raising children and address declining birth rates and an aging population.
