China calls for political settlement of Iranian nuclear issue

Chinese envoy Sun Lei has called for a political and diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, urging the parties involved to renounce the use of force and return to negotiations.

Speaking at a UN Security Council briefing, Sun said continued conflict in the Middle East has caused serious losses and warned that the situation could further harm regional stability. He said the US and Iran should resume dialogue and resolve their differences through equal and respectful negotiations.

Sun also stressed Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, while supporting efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation. Russia and China voted against holding the Security Council meeting, with Russia arguing that the resolution supporting the Iran nuclear deal had expired in 2025. Credit : CGTN
