Serbian president dissolves parliament, calls snap elections for October 25

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed a decree dissolving parliament and called snap parliamentary elections for October 25 to help ease political tensions and give citizens a direct vote on the country’s direction. Prompted by a formal proposal from Prime Minister Djuro Macut and backed unanimously by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS)—which nominated Vucic as its lead candidate and prime ministerial nominee—the move initiates a 45-day election campaign. Vucic emphasized that holding elections now will allow Serbia sufficient time to prepare for hosting Expo 2027 in Belgrade while urging all parties to maintain a peaceful, respectful, and democratic campaign process.
